I believe in celebrating the messy, the unorganised, the imperfect, the beautifully and superbly chaotic and different. I love edgy people who feel like they don't quite fit the mould, who head-butt against the conventional, who don't believe in “should's” and who make no apologies for doing so. People just like me!
These are the clients I market to, and attract, and these are the photographers who I want to work with. If you’re over the monotony of perfect posing and smiles, and if you’re ready to loosen up, open up and work more freely than you ever have before, then this workshop is for you.
My story is far from perfect, and far from what I imagined it would be. A painful divorce in my early twenties, and an even more painful separation when my son was just six months old left me feeling completely out of control. THIS WAS NOT THE LIFE I ORDERED! I was hell bent on showing up as “perfect” to mask the messy life that was my reality. It showed in my work. Technically, it was perfect. Perfect lighting, perfect posing, perfect smiles, perfect composition. But, it lacked soul. It was flat. It lacked heart. And it wasn’t fulfilling me at all.
I had a revelation when a fellow photographer asked why my personal work broke all the rules, had so much depth and soul BUT when money was involved with my client work, I played it so safe. Through tears I realised that I was scared to show people who I really was, and presenting them with perfect and appearing to be perfect meant that I would appear perfect and everything would be ok that way.
The day I started showing up as ME, and owning it, was the day everything changed. Photographing families suddenly felt as free as flying a kite. It would leave me buzzing for days after a session, and the response I got from my clients was beyond anything I had received before. They were getting photos that had heart, soul and depth. Being vulnerable, being honest and living my truth started bringing in so much good.
I now run a successful family photography business, I have the happiest, headstrong (!) two year old little boy, and I am building a life with the warmest, kindest, most loving man and his two beautiful kids. Life is so good.
Life: Unmade is about owning your story, embracing the things that make you who you are and using that as a powerful tool in your work. You will come away from this workshop shooting intuitively, more creatively and with so much more satisfaction because it’s from the heart.
This workshop isn’t just about learning my process (although all of that is included). It’s goes deeper, asks the big questions and will allow you to flourish in your own, beautiful and unique way.
